@ Mike - Bonding can be tough. I often find myself wondering if some of the bonding issues I've faced with our daughter are unique to adoption or just part of parenting. I think it's both - and almost impossible to tell the difference. I encourage you to download the notes from last year's Tapestry Adoption & Foster Care Fall Conference. Pages 25-30 focus on the realities of race and culture in adoption - which may play into your struggle?

Thanks for sharing! You may want to edit the "we crapped ourselves" that I assume was meant to be "we scrapped ourselves!"

Wow, I can totally relate to so much in this post. This past Monday was when we brought our little "Hope Giver" home permanently. She is 19 months old, so a little older than your Gracie, but there were other similarities -- living in the same foster home since just about birth (six days after birth in our case) so strong attachments there, feeling like we could just take her home earlier in the transition and she would be fine, loving being a father to a daughter...

So your post was really familiar to me :) Our adoption was through social services, but we got really blessed very early on. We started training for foster/adoptive care last February, finished the licensing work and paperwork mid-summer, got officially licensed in September, and in October, we had our first experience with our little girl! We did respite care for her frequently during the process of waiting for her to be cleared for adoption.

Anyway, thanks for sharing. Out of curiosity, is "Sevyn" pronounced like the number 7? Or is the second syllable accented (more like suh-VEEN)?
