My wife and I have two adopted children. As our daughter the oldest enters puberty she has had tremendous mood swings. In these she has begun to show that there is a true sense of loss within her. Like you being unable to make it go away and fix it hurts, but we are determined to stand by her not give her any opportunity to wonder about her position in our family or our love for her. Thanks for opening up your lives to us, it helps.

How you have written out this extremely personal and emotional experience is amazing. I completely share in your same approach and it is comforting for me to read this.

Thank you for sharing this and reminding us that this journey although wonderful in many ways carries with it pain and a great responsibility to our children to embrace their emotions and feelings even at those dark hours when we can say and do nothing...but just be there and hold them.

Wow. Thanks for speaking candidly and this side of adoption is not often discussed in transparency like this. You're example is coaching me...

Regarding his age, please email me at michael.monroe@tx.rr.com and I will let you know. I have three sons and one girl and I ommitted his age so as not to identify which of my boys this relates to. Happy to tell you "offline."

Thanks for the kind words,

Michael

Thank you for sharing this experience. As one who has considered adoption, who still considers adoption, and who plans to one day foster, these kinds of stories help to get a glimpse of the reality of the situation. In parenting, there often seems like there are few "right" choices, but from reading about your heart and actions, I'd venture to say you made the right choice here.

I appreciate your website as a fellow adoptive dad and I thank you for sharing this touching personal story. May I ask how old your son is at this point that he is "emotionally embracing" this grief?
